Ralph Snart appeared a few times in the Comics Buyer's Guide, and most famously in the February 3, 1989 issue where Ralph sends a roll of toilet paper to a desperate NOW freelance artist. Over the next few weeks, much debate over the strip appeared in the letters column of the CBG.

The cartoon also appeared in The Comics Journal #127, which featured an 11-page slamfest on NOW. Several NOW freelancers complained bitterly about late payments and ill-treatment from Tony Caputo.

Hansen: I was just making fun of the whole situation. I came from an art studio background and was familiar with how clients paid (or didn't). Whining about late payments, or acting like a dumb ass is a great way to not get paid. Both NOW and the freelancers were guilty and full of it in equal amounts.
