According to Allen Freeman, editor of the RSA fan club, this was the first published appearance of who was then known as "Rodge Snarf", in Marc Hansen's college newspaper in 1982-4. Rodge Snarf would next appear in Tony Caputo's fanzine FanGraphix prior to NOW Comics in 1985, but under a new name. Rodge was changed to Ralph and the last name was changed to Snart because Kitchen Sink Press published a SNARF comic book at that time.
