MR. LIZARD COMIC BOOKS
Besides Ralph himself, Mr. Lizard is by far the most popular character ever
to appear in RSA. Ralph was introduced to him in Volume 2, issue 4 "My summer of
ill repute", dated February, 1987. In volume 3, issue 26, John Hartman penned
a short 4 page story advertising the fact that he would be the writer of a new
Mr. Lizard monthly series starting in September 1990, but NOW went belly-up for the
first time, and this series was never published.
RSA made a comeback with NOW Comics in 1992, and capitalizing on RSA's success, in 1993
NOW did get around to publishing two Mr. Lizard comics; the 3-D special, and the Mr.
Lizard annual. Both came with collectable sponges (yes, sponges). The Mr. Lizard 3-D special
comes with a capsule that contains a 2-1/2" high Mr. Lizard sponge, and the Mr. Lizard annual
comes with a capsule that contains a 2-1/2" high Ralph Snart sponge. (Both have to be immersed
in warm water).
The webmaster assumes that these issues were the first two issues of the planned Mr. Lizard
series, and produced sometime during the 11 month hiatus period when NOW was not publishing in
1989 and 1990, but not released until 1993. Although Marc Hansen was infuriated by other
hack writers and hack artists messing with his creations, Hartman's writing isn't too bad; he's
the best of the hacks.
